The Aesthetic Market By The Numbers

When you think of aesthetic medicine, there are a few primary treatments that immediately come to mind. Laser hair removal. Botox and other injectables. Vein treatments. Perhaps even body sculpting technology, which has become more widely recognized in recent years. It’s true—all of those treatments serve as bread-and-butter commodities for practices around the world. But when you take a close look at the numbers behind the market for aesthetic procedures, you may find a few surprises!

The Increasing Demand for Aesthetic Procedures

The latest Consumer Survey results have been released by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), and they are well worth perusing if you’re looking for a glimpse into the changing face of consumer demand. For starters, nearly 6 in 10 consumers surveyed are considering a cosmetic procedure—that’s a 10% increase since just last year! It’s possible this is due to increased public awareness as celebrities become more open about their own procedures. Regardless, it strongly suggests that the market for aesthetic procedures is growing, and it highlights the potential that aesthetic services offer to practices everywhere.

In addition, the ASDS survey asks over 7,000 consumers which aesthetic procedures they are considering. And while the market data for aesthetic procedures notes that laser hair removal and body sculpting are indeed popular treatment options, more consumers—60% of them—say they are considering skin tightening and wrinkle reduction using laser, light or radiofrequency energy. Meanwhile, 50% of consumers are also considering laser and light treatments to correct redness, improve skin tone or reduce the appearance of scars.

Laser and Light Treatments: Keeping the Customer Satisfied

It’s not surprising that so many people are considering these treatments, given that both rank among the top rankings for patient satisfaction. Over 95% of those surveyed say they achieved the results they were looking for with laser and light treatments, whether it was used to treat wrinkles, redness or skin tone.

From the data gathered, it’s clear that demand for non-invasive aesthetic treatments is on the rise—and that an aesthetic system that can deliver these treatments is a sound investment for your practice. As you make your decisions about which system to invest in, it’s important to consider the specific needs of your clientele. With that in mind, a customizable system like the xeo from Cutera makes a lot of sense.
